Dacia Spring Electric: approach and specifications

Unveiled roughly six months ago, the Dacia Spring Electric arrived with a clear-and bold-mission: to be the cheapest electric car on the market.

To hit that target, it takes its foundations from the “Asian” Renault K-ZE, does without a long list of extras, and focuses on the basics.

Electric motor performance

Power comes from an electric motor producing just 33 kW (44 hp), which is enough for a top speed of 125 km/h. Select ECO mode and that maximum is capped at 100 km/h.

Battery capacity and WLTP range

The battery is rated at 26.8 kWh and delivers a range of 225 km (WLTP cycle) or 295 km (WLTP city cycle).

How much does it cost in France?

With orders in France due to open on 20 March, pricing for that market is already confirmed.

In entry-level Comfort trim-equipped with items such as manual air conditioning and a Bluetooth radio-the Spring Electric starts at 16 990 euros. Step up to the more “luxurious” Comfort Plus version (which includes, for instance, a 7-inch screen) and the price rises to 18 490 euros.

Those figures do not yet include France’s electric-car purchase incentives (27% off the price up to a maximum of 6000 euros), which can bring the cost down further. As a result, the base version should land at around 12 400 euros, while the Comfort Plus should come in at about 15 thousand euros.

There is also more potential upside: thanks to the French Government’s scrappage incentive scheme for end-of-life vehicles, the entry version could even dip below the 12 thousand euros mark.

And in Portugal?

For now, Dacia has not announced how much the Dacia Spring Electric will cost in Portugal. Even so, the French price list gives a useful basis for an estimate.

Because electric vehicles are exempt from ISV in Portugal, the sticker price tends not to differ dramatically from other European Union countries. The main variation is the VAT rate-23% in Portugal versus 20% in France.

On that basis, a quick calculation suggests the base version could be priced at around 17 500 euros before incentives. As for support measures, since it is a passenger car, the Spring Electric could have a total of 3000 euros deducted from its price.
