Available in Portugal since the start of 2025, the Renault 5 E-Tech has attracted plenty of attention ever since its unveiling. And while almost everything has already been said about it - and about what it could mean for the affordable electric-car segment - one key piece was still missing: the long-awaited version priced below €25,000.
Until now, the Renault 5 E-Tech could be ordered with just two power outputs: an entry version from €27,500 with 90 kW (120 cv) and a 40 kWh battery, and a flagship option with 110 kW (150 cv) paired with a 52 kWh battery, with prices starting at €33,000.
Renault 5 E-Tech Five: the sub-€25,000 version now open for orders
Renault has now finally opened the order books for the most affordable variant of its new model. It is called Five, comes with 70 kW (95 cv) and uses the same 40 kWh battery as the 120 cv version. The price? From €24,900, putting it among the cheapest electric cars on sale in Portugal. Find out which they are:
Evolution version: 120 cv with a 52 kWh battery coming soon
Before long, the 90 kW (120 cv) version will also be offered with the 52 kWh battery, in the Evolution trim. This change will allow a driving range of up to 410 km. Prices start at €31,000.
What do you lose?
As well as being the least powerful option, the most affordable Renault 5 is also the one with the shortest range in the line-up - although only by a very small margin. According to the French brand, it can cover up to 310 km on a charge (WLTP cycle), just two kilometres less than the 120 cv version (40 kWh battery).
The biggest difference lies in charging. The Five version does not support direct current (DC) charging. It can only be charged on alternating current (AC), at up to 11 kW. On top of that, this version does without automatic air conditioning, a heat pump, a battery temperature optimisation system, or the V2L (vehicle-to-load) option.
Even so, standard equipment still includes 18-inch steel wheels, Full LED headlights, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch central multimedia screen - plus, of course, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
In addition, the Renault 5 Five also comes with 15 safety and driver-assistance systems, including active emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and Renault’s emergency call service.
How is the range structured?
With this new version, the Renault 5 is now available in Portugal with three different powertrains - 70 kW (95 cv), 88 kW (120 cv) and 110 kW (150 cv) - which can be combined with two batteries offering 40 kWh or 52 kWh of capacity.
The line-up is also split into five equipment levels, from Five (the entry version) up to Roland-Garros, which lends its name to a special edition inspired by the iconic tennis tournament. Prices are set out as follows:
