Monday, 30 June, began with lower prices for the two most commonly purchased fuels in Portugal.
Between last Friday, 27 June, and today, the average price of standard diesel fell by 3.2 cents per litre, while standard petrol dropped by 2.4 cents per litre (Source: Mais Gasolina).
Based on those figures, the average price of standard diesel has moved down to 1,581 €/l, while standard petrol is now 1,697 €/l.
Even so, this reduction is not enough to offset last week’s 6.5-cent rise in the price of standard diesel.
Changes at the main fuel brands (standard diesel and standard petrol)
Across the leading fuel retailers, Galp and Repsol cut the price of standard diesel by 4.5 cents per litre. For standard petrol, Galp reduced the price by 3 cents, while Repsol lowered it by 3.5 cents.
BP, meanwhile, brought standard diesel down by 5 cents per litre and reduced standard petrol by 3.5 cents per litre.
How the average fuel prices are calculated (DGEG)
As usual, the benchmark used to calculate fuel prices is the set of figures published by the Directorate-General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) - in this case, the values for last Friday, 27 June.
The DGEG figures already take into account discounts applied by fuel retailers, as well as the government measures currently in place. However, it is important to underline that these are average, indicative values and may differ from the prices displayed at individual petrol stations.
Government measures in force
The government measures introduced in 2022 to soften the impact of rising fuel prices remain in place, focusing mainly on the ISP.
This year, the ISP increased by 3 cents per litre, but because the carbon tax rate fell, there were no changes to the overall tax burden on fuels.
