The special edition is called the Lexus IS 500 Climax Edition and, yes, there have been better names. Still, if the goal was to grab attention, it certainly succeeds.

This new limited-run version of the Japanese saloon keeps the ingredients that sound right to enthusiasts: a naturally aspirated V8 producing 479 cv, rear-wheel drive, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Exterior styling: “Incognito” grey, dark details and 19-inch wheels

Paired with “Incognito” paint in grey hues, 19-inch matte black wheels, a darkened front grille and a subtle front lip, it is fair to say the Lexus IS has reached the peak - or the “climax” - of its development.

Cabin finish and identification plaque

Inside, you get perforated black leather seats with grey stitching, along with several accents in red. On the centre console, there is also an identification plaque for this special version: IS 500 Climax Edition.

If you are thinking about adding one of these Climax models to your garage, it will not be straightforward. Production is limited to just 100 units, and every single one is earmarked for the United States.

Climax name or not, it is hard not to picture this as a farewell of sorts - with the V8 in this Lexus IS 500 leaving a lasting impression on anyone who was thrilled simply by hearing it.
