As the Munich Motor Show draws closer, where a prototype previewing the next-generation Skoda Octavia will be unveiled in September, more information is beginning to emerge.

Klaus Zellmer, Skoda’s Chief Executive Officer, has recently shared a few pointers with Autocar about what this “new” Octavia could bring.

Munich Motor Show Skoda Octavia concept: early hints

According to Zellmer, the prototype features refreshed styling that marks “the next step” in the brand’s evolution, while still staying true to Skoda’s identity. “(The concept) will create controversial discussions,” Zellmer added.

So far, Skoda has not released any images of the prototype, keeping the new Skoda Octavia’s appearance under wraps. The lead image was generated using Artificial Intelligence and does not reflect the real car.

What do we already know?

Based on what was disclosed earlier this year, the next generation of the Skoda Octavia will, at last, be offered with a fully electric powertrain. However, the launch is only expected towards the end of this decade, and the model will be built on the SSP platform, which will be shared with other Volkswagen Group electric cars, including the electric Golf and the electric T-Roc.

Even so, questions remain over what will happen to the Skoda Octavia with combustion engines. Zellmer suggested that an updated version could stay on sale alongside the new electric generation, as part of an approach designed to keep the range broad and aligned with customer preferences.

“There is enough sales volume in the market for us to have two cars on sale at the same time. It all depends on the customer, but we intend to keep all options open,” Zellmer explained. He also confirmed that the brand will relaunch the plug-in hybrid system.

And the rest of the range?

Zellmer also said that the Skoda Fabia, Scala and Kamiq will remain on sale “beyond 2030”, going against the brand’s initial plans to replace them with the new Epiq.
