Skoda Kodiaq 2024: second generation arrives in Portugal

A year on from its unveiling - and a few months after we first drove it - the second-generation Skoda Kodiaq has now reached Portugal. Skoda’s ambition for this model is to repeat the success of the first generation, which recorded more than 850,000 units sold.

The most obvious changes appear at the front, which has been subtly reshaped and now features a new visual signature, fresh headlamp units and a larger front grille.

At the rear, the headline update is the new LED light signature, created by the tail-lamps and extending across the full width of the Skoda Kodiaq’s body.

Space has never really been an issue, but Skoda has still added 61 mm to the Kodiaq’s overall length, taking it to 4.758 m. That extra length is particularly useful on a car that can seat up to seven.

Those additional centimetres also allow the Skoda Kodiaq to claim a bigger boot. In the five-seat version fitted with the plug-in hybrid system - which requires extra room for the battery - maximum boot capacity stands at 745 litres.

In the seven-seat version, luggage space is 340 litres - 70 litres more than the previous generation - but with the third-row seats folded, boot space increases to 845 litres.

Fully refreshed cabin

Visually, the Skoda Kodiaq’s interior has been completely redesigned, mirroring the approach taken with the latest-generation Skoda Superb.

Among the most notable upgrades is the 13-inch central infotainment screen (entry-level versions will use a smaller 10-inch display), which is styled to look like it is floating. There is also a new head-up display available as an option, designed to work alongside the fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster.

Available powertrains

On the powertrain front, one of the key additions to Skoda’s new SUV line-up is a new plug-in hybrid variant, called Kodiaq iV, which quotes a maximum electric-only range of around 120 km.

In this configuration, a 1.5 TSI petrol engine producing 150 hp is paired with a second (electric) motor and a 25.7 kWh battery. Combined system output is 204 hp. The Kodiaq iV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.4 seconds and can reach a top speed of 210 km/h.

This version supports AC charging up to 11 kW, enabling a 10% to 80% charge in 2.5 hours. In addition, it can DC fast-charge at up to 50 kW, which equates to roughly 25 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.

Alongside the plug-in hybrid, there is also a 48V mild-hybrid option based around a 1.5-litre petrol engine with 150 hp. Later on, the Czech brand will also introduce a Diesel version - which we have already had the chance to drive - using a 2.0 TDI unit with 150 hp. Both the petrol and Diesel engines are paired with a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

Starting prices

The 2024 Skoda Kodiaq is already available to order in the national market. For now, the range’s pricing is structured as follows:
