Applications for support to purchase electric vehicles open on 31 March (next Monday) via the Environmental Fund portal. They will then remain open for 45 days, or until the available budget is used up, as stated on the Portuguese Republic website.
The total amount available for passenger cars and goods vehicles is 15.5 million euros. Of this, 13.5 million euros is earmarked for light passenger vehicles, as well as bicycles, motorcycles, chargers, and other measures. The remaining two million euros will be assigned to goods vehicles.
Electric cars
For light passenger cars, the requirement to hand in an older vehicle for scrappage remains in place, along with the incentive levels: 4000 euros for private individuals and 5000 euros for Private Social Solidarity Institutions (IPSS).
One of this year’s changes is that the price cap for eligible cars will rise to 55,000 euros (VAT included) for models with more than five seats. For all other models, the limit stays at 38,500 euros (VAT included).
As a result, 1,425 incentives are planned for private individuals (5.7 million euros), while 600 incentives are set aside for IPSS (three million euros), with a maximum of four per beneficiary. Last year, only 1,050 and 400 incentives were предусмотрed, respectively.
Other incentives
For standard bicycles, the incentive can range from 500 to 1500 euros, with a higher amount available for electric bicycles. For motorcycles, tricycles, quadricycles and other electric personal mobility devices, the maximum incentive will be 1500 euros.
As for goods vehicles-available exclusively to legal entities-the support will be six thousand euros per unit (limited to two vehicles per beneficiary) for 100% electric light goods vehicles (category N1).
For cargo bicycles (with or without electric assistance), the incentive equals 50% of the purchase price, up to a maximum of 1500 euros (electric) or 1000 euros (standard). Here too, there is a limit of four units per beneficiary. Find out in detail what support is planned for this year.
And what about chargers?
In addition, the Environmental Fund also plans support of up to 800 euros per parking space (including purchase and installation) for electric vehicle chargers in multi-family condominium buildings.
For these incentives, costs incurred from 1 January 2025 are eligible. The deadline to submit documents for payment requests is 30 November.
Although applications are only open for 45 days, the Environmental Fund may launch another application window later in the year, depending on what remains available in each category.
