After refreshing the 4 Series Coupé and Convertible - plus the “all‑powerful” M4 - BMW has now turned its attention to the last two models still waiting for an update: the 4 Series Gran Coupé and the all‑electric i4 Gran Coupé.
The changes aren’t dramatic, but they’re easy to spot straight away, particularly on the outside. The styling tweaks begin with the familiar twin kidney grille, which remains partially closed on the BMW i4.
The lighting signature has also been updated. Both the 4 Series Gran Coupé and i4 Gran Coupé now use vertical LED elements for the daytime running lights. The rear lamps have been redesigned too, and can be specified with Laser LED technology, as seen on the M4 CSL.
Interior também evoluiu
Inside, the updates continue. Both models gain the Curved Display system already used across other BMWs, combining a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch infotainment screen, joined beneath a single curved glass panel.
On top of that, both now run the latest-generation operating system (BMW 8.5), which promises new graphics and quicker access to the most-used functions.
There’s more as well: new steering wheels are available, with M Sport versions featuring a flat-bottom design, and the air vents have been reworked - now smaller and more minimalist. The seats retain their sporty shape, while introducing new materials.
Uma nova versão elétrica
When it comes to powertrains, the BMW i4 now comes in four variants. The range starts with the i4 eDrive35, delivering 210 kW (285 cv) and up to 500 km (WLTP) of range, and tops out with the BMW i4 M50 xDrive, with 400 kW (543 cv) and a claimed range of up to 522 km (WLTP).
Alongside those are the i4 eDrive40, offering 250 kW (340 cv) and up to 600 km (WLTP), plus the new i4 xDrive40 with all-wheel drive, producing 295 kW (401 cv) and up to 548 km (WLTP), helped by an 81.1 kWh battery.
Sem caixa manual
For the 4 Series Gran Coupé, the engines themselves are unchanged. The one key update is that every variant now comes as standard with an eight-speed Steptronic automatic transmission, with the manual gearbox being dropped entirely.
So, in terms of engines, there are still three petrol versions (420i, 430i xDrive and M440i xDrive, with 184, 245 and 374 cv respectively) and two diesel options (420d and 430d xDrive, with 190 and 286 cv respectively).
Both diesel units and the most powerful petrol option, the 430d xDrive with its six-cylinder engine, are paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. However - contrary to what many expected - BMW hasn’t used this facelift to bring the same setup to the lower-powered petrol versions.
Para quando?
The updated BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and i4 Gran Coupé will enter production in July. For now, BMW Munich hasn’t announced pricing for Portugal, nor confirmed the market arrival date.
